  KOUGAR MAGAZINE: 2011

I'm sitting at the computer, taking one final look over the site before the new season is launched. I love this moment (Who wouldn't!), the moment of "Whew!" It's the moment of quiet in which I get to sit and reflect on the exciting and often stressful journey that brought us here. The last couple of days before the launch are always the craziest, when the editors plant themselves in front of their computers to tie up all of the loose ends: combing over each new article, making sure everything is ready. I'm sure you'll find a few glitches here and there as we work out the kinks, but we think you'll like what you see.

It's been an interesting year with the sudden increase in interest in and conflict about (thank you, Google and Kim Cattrall) the cougar – a sign that we have the beginnings of a movement at hand – and that's exciting. I've had the good fortune recently to meet with some of the leaders in this movement, Lucia and Linda Franklin being a couple of them, and their passion is contagious. One thing they've all expressed, in one way or another, is their frustration in the media's depiction of the cougar. I, myself, am often faced with the question, "Why don't you change the name of the magazine? It's so controversial." My answer is that it's not the name that needs to change – it's the attitude. The definition of cougar is one of feminine strength, wisdom, and beauty, and that's something our culture as a whole is not completely comfortable with yet. So with that, we say, embrace your inner Kougar! Challenge yourself to start living to your full potential. (Please, no bra burning.) Change begins with us. So, beautiful Kougars, Kougars-To-Be, and Kougar Lovers, begin here and now, with our newest issue of KougarMagazine.com!

Enjoy!
